IPR Helpdesk – Guide to Intellectual Property Rights in Horizon 2020

The European IPR Helpdesk is the official IP service initiative of the European Commission. Its mission is to provide free of charge, first-line support on Intellectual Property (IP) and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) matters to beneficiaries of EU funded research projects and EU SMEs involved in transnational partnership agreements, especially within the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN).

Publicly-funded scientific research results should not only benefit the project participants, but also the economy via the creation of spin-off companies, and society at large thanks to new technologies available on the market. Therefore, understanding Intellectual Property Rights issues of a Horizon 2020 funded project is crucial also for on the proposal stage and the exploitation of research results.

For this reason, the IPR Helpdesk has recently released a Guide to Intellectual Property Rights in Horizon 2020, which covers the basic facts on central IP aspects in H2020 project life. The aim of this guide is to provide support in the understanding of the expectations and requirements of the European Commission related to IP in Horizon 2020 projects. In addition, the guide wishes to provide hands-on advice and tips on how to put IP management into practice.

The Guide to Intellectual Property Rights in Horizon 2020 is available for downloading online  here.

On Wednesday 10 December 2014, the IPR Helpdesk is organising a webinar on the topic of IP in Horizon 2020 projects. The webinar will address the basic IP rules in Horizon 2020 and the common pitfalls and IP challenges in collaborative research projects.
