Innoviris and NCP Brussels officially launch the 2023 DUT calls with Brussels stakeholders

DUT Partnership

The Driving Urban Transitions (DUT) Partnership builds upon the achievements of the Joint Programming Initiative (JPI) Urban Europe created in 2010. It addresses the global urban challenges with the ambition to develop a European research and innovation (R&I) hub on urban matters and create European solutions by means of coordinated research. Collaboration, problem-solving, concrete uptake (urban living labs, local experimentation…), replication and mainstreaming are at the core of the DUT Partenership approach.

DUT challenges are grouped into three themes called Transition Pathways:

Positive Energy Districts (PED)

  • PED topic 1: Energy Resilience and Energy Poverty
  • PED topic 2: Urban Regeneration and Refurbishment
  • PED topic 3: Enabling Systems for Local Energy Transition: Collaboration and Sustainable Investment

15-Minute City (15mC)

  • 15mC topic 1: Integrated Policies and Evidence to Reduce Car-dependency
  • 15mC topic 2: Contributions of Mobility and Planning Policies to Proximity-oriented Development
  • 15mC topic 3: Socio-cultural research and honest engagement for the mobility transition

Circular Urban Economies (CUE)

  • CUE topic 1: The Built environment as a resource base
  • CUE topic 2: Knowledge and optimisation of resources flows between urban and rural areas
  • CUE topic 3: Planning and Designing Urban Areas with Nature: Towards a Regenerative Urbanism

The pre-proposal submission deadline is 21 November 2023, 13:00 CET.

Launch of the 2023 calls

On 8 September, NCP Brussels and Innoviris co-organised a launch event for the 2023 calls of the DUT Partnerships for Brussels stakeholders at hub.brussels. This event targeted local authorities, research organisations / universities, private companies, and civil society organisations.

During this event, Kourosch Abbaspour Tehrani, Scientific Director at Innoviris presented the DUT Partnership itself , the 2023 calls and the specificities for Brussels candidates. Gaëlle Hubert, Scientific Advisor at Innoviris, presented the Urban Doers Grant and the support provided by Innoviris to prospective candidates. Cluster 5 NCPs Camille Dehestru and Sabrina Bijlsma presented Horizon Europe, and the support provided by NCP Brussels to the candidates. Two testimonials closed the session: Prof. Dr. Imre Keserü (Mobilise VUB) and Jelten Baguet (Mpact asbl/vzw) presented “Smarthubs” and “Dreams” projects, and Chiara Cicchianni (Architecture Workroom Brussels) the “Cities4PEDs” project.

  • Manage the funding of the R&I (e.g. DUT) projects: agreements, annual committees, budget, scientific reporting …
  • Contribute to/ensure the valorization of the projects

In a complementary fashion, the role of NCP Brussels under the DUT is the following:
