Innoviris and NCP Brussels to kick-off the Driving Urban Transitions (DUT) Partnership on 12th September!

Innoviris and NCP Brussels to kick-off the Driving Urban Transitions (DUT) Partnership on 12th September, with over 50 potential future Brussels candidates from academia, local authorities, and civil society.

This seminar was the opportunity to learn more about the approach of the DUT, which is built on 3 transition pathways: Positive Energy Districts (PED), 15-Minute City (15mC) and Circular Urban Economies (CUE). All three are strategic areas of innovation closely linked with the Brussels Regional Innovation plan. Participants also had the opportunity to exchange ideas on practical aspects such as eligibility rules and selection criteria, and received concrete advice through the testimony of Jesse Pappers from VUB Mobi’s research centre and Adrian Hill from Osmos Network on their projects funded under JPI Urban Europe, respectively “LOOPER” and “Cities of Making”.

The “Driving Urban Transitions” (DUT) partnership is the successor to the JPI Urban Europe partnership. It will be co-funded by Innoviris in the Brussels-Capital Region. In a nutshell, the DUT aims to address the global urban challenges with the ambition to develop a European research and innovation (R&I) hub on urban matters and to create European solutions by means of coordinated research.
This new partnership is currently in the process of being launched, with its first wave of calls to be published on 21st September 2022. The pre-proposal deadline is on 21 November 2022, and applicants will be invited to submit full proposals in March 2023 with a deadline on 3 May 2023. The regional Innoviris budget for the first call wave is 1 million euros, aiming to fund 3-4 projects, starting between September 2023 and January 2024 for a maximum of 3 years.

Brussels entities potentially interested in applying for calls under the DUT partnership can:

  • Register for the Info Days on the DUT organized by the European Commission on 20 September and 18 October 2022.
  • Attend the DUT Launch Event in Brussels on 4-5 October 2022.
  • Get in touch with Innoviris and NCP Brussels for individual support; or with the DUT Call Secretariat (call2022@dutpartnership.eu) for general questions.
  • Use the matchmaking platform.

* Commission’s streamlined approach to partnership :

• Co-programmed partnerships: based on a Memorandum of Understanding or contractual arrangements, these are implemented independently by the partners and by Horizon Europe
• Co-funded partnerships: based on a joint programme agreed and implemented by partners, with commitments of partners for financial and in-kind contributions
• Institutionalized partnerships: based on art.185/187 of TFEU and EIT legal acts for 2021-2027, with a long-term dimension an a need for high integration
