First statistics on the participation of Brussels organisations to the 7th framework programme is published
Belgian participants to the FP7 submitted 12895 projects with a success rate of 22%. This is higher than the European average. 1,315 billion euro were awarded to Belgian participants, amongst which 339 million to Brussels-based organisations. The success rate in the Brussels-Capital region is the same as the Belgian average, both at participation (24%) and at project (22%) levels. This is higher than the European average (respectively 22% and 20%).
Brussels receives 26% of the FP7 financing from the EU to Belgium. If we exclude international organisations, which represent 52% of the Brussels participants, the percentage is 15% or 175 million euro. Fmor these 175 million euro, 79 go to universities and 36 to Brussels SMEs. On average, the financing of Brussels participants covers 78% of the project budget.
The Region’s priority themes represent 43% of the regional participations to FP7, or 49% if taking into account the new niche markets of creative industries and civil security. Financing for priority themes and players corresponds to 140 million euro or 41% of the financing awarded to the Region (excluding Competitiveness and Innovation Programme). The sectorial split is:
- ICT 35,3%
- Energy, environment and sustainable construction 30,2%
- Health 25,1%
- Research for the benefit of SMEs 9,4%
