 Why should you know the difference between angel investing, venture capital and venture debt?

More than ever, startups have many options when raising financing. As both angels and venture capitalists invest in equity, they might intuitively look alike. They are very different when you look at their incentive structure and governance, and their subsequent potential manner and longevity of support.

Many startups today do not consider the potential of venture debt (like revenue-based finance) when thinking of financing a new investment in their technology, team or marketing. If anything, a serious consideration of venture debt puts the distinctive path of receiving an equity investment in a different perspective.

Therefore, there is one more prism through which we can explore these differences, one that however intuitive, is relatively underutilized when thinking about raising financing. Namely, what does it cost?
