Europe embarks on a new era of patent protection: Unitary Patents
Unitary Patents will allow patent holders to get protection in up to 25 EU Member States by submitting a single request to the European Patent Office (EPO). It will make the existing European patent system simpler and less expensive for inventors (individuals, companies, and research organisations). Starting 1 June, users will be able to apply for a single patent through a single procedure, subject to a single renewal fee in a single currency, and litigate under a single legal system before the Unified Patent Court (UPC).
