Commission opened new calls under EU Missions
The five EU Missions were announced in June 2021 with the first calls for 2021 and launched in September 2021 together with the publication of their implementation plan.
They will focus on the following strategic objectives:
- Adaptation to Climate Change: support at least 150 European regions and communities to become climate resilient by 2030
- Cancer: improving the lives of more than 3 million people by 2030 through prevention, cure and for those affected by cancer including their families, to live longer and better
- Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030
- 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030
- A Soil Deal for Europe: 100 living labs and lighthouses to lead the transition towards healthy soils by 2030
On 16 December 2021, the Commission adopted through an amendment to the Horizon Europe work programme for 2021-2022 an increase of €723 million, bringing the total budget of Missions to €15.4 billion.
The Commission also announced 28 new calls:
A first round of calls will open on 22 December 2021
- 8 calls under the Soils mission with a deadline on 24 March 2022
- 12 calls under the Ocean mission with a deadline on 12 April 2022
- 3 calls under the Cancer mission with a deadline on 26 April 2022
A second round of calls will open on 11 January 2022
- 5 calls under the Climate mission with a deadline on 12 April 2022
In the Work Programme 2021-2022, 6 calls are also planned under the Cities mission (5 with a deadline on 26 April 2022 and 1 with a deadline on 6 September 2022). They will gradually be made available on the Funding & Tender Portal.
