The Green Deal call aims at delivering tangible and visible results relatively quickly and shows how research and innovation can provide concrete solutions for the Green Deal main priorities.

This is why the call will support

  • pilot applications, demonstration projects, and innovative products
  • innovation for better governance of the green and digital transition
  • social and value chain innovation

In addition to technological development and demonstration, the call encourages experimentation and social innovation for new ways to engage civil society and empower citizens.

As part of the public consultation, you can consult the draft topics and provide feedback by 3rd June 2020. The Final Call topics are expected for mid-September 2020 and the deadline for submitting the project proposal is expected for the end of January 2021.

Stakeholder feedback

A stakeholder feedback survey on the call areas ran from 19 May to 3 June. Thank you to all who took part. We received almost 6000 survey responses and 500 documents were uploaded.

Overview of survey results

Participants were asked to rate each call area and topic on its relevance and design.

Respondents thought the draft call text was most relevant in the following areas, with over 75% of them giving a relevance rating of 9/10 or 10/10

  • area 7: restoring biodiversity and ecosystem services
  • area 4: energy and resource-efficient buildings
  • area 8 topic 1: persistent and mobile chemicals

Lower relevance ratings were given for the following areas, with over 25% of respondents giving a neutral or critical relevance score (1/10-6/10)

  • area 2 topic 2: develop and demonstrate a 100 MW electrolyser
  • area 1 topic 1: preventing and fighting extreme wildfires
  • area 5: green airports and ports as hubs for sustainable and smart mobility
  • area 9 topic 3: a transparent and accessible ocean, towards a digital twin of the ocean

The gap between relevance and design was largest (7-20 percentage points difference) for

  • area 7: restoring biodiversity and ecosystem services
  • area 11: accelerating the clean energy transition and access in partnership with Africa
  • area 3 topic 1: closing the industrial carbon cycle to combat climate change
