Commission takes stock of the New European Bauhaus in first report

The New European Bauhaus (NEB) is the European Commission’s initiative aimed at giving the EU Green Deal a cultural spin. The first progress report is taking stock of the of the achievements in the initiative’s first two years. The NEB is gaining traction, with 600 official partner organisations involved and over €100 million in European funding spent.

Numerous projects are on the way all around Europe. More are foreseen, as all EU countries included references to the New European Bauhaus in their cohesion policy programmes. Moreover, the Commission will allocate a further €106 million to NEB calls under Horizon Europe for 2023 and 2024.

The initiative has found support in the European Parliament, which recently called for a dedicated ‘mission’ to be set up for NEB under Horizon Europe. Welcoming the report, MEP Christian Ehler called the NEB “the intellectual complement to the European Green Deal.” He noted that while a lot has been achieved, more can be done.
